What we repair

Almost every failure on a residential door.

If it moves or makes noise, we've probably seen it. Here's the short list of what a typical service call covers.

  • Broken torsion & extension springs
The most common failure. Replaced as a matched pair so the door stays balanced.
  • Cables, drums, and rollers
Frayed cables, jumped drums, and seized rollers all get swapped on-site.
  • Panels, hinges, and brackets
Dented panels and bent hardware replaced with Amarr-matched parts where possible.
  • Off-track doors
Reset, re-tensioned, and checked for the root cause so it doesn't happen again next month.
  • Opener and logic-board issues
Covered in detail on our Opener Repair page. Often diagnosed during the same visit.
  • Weather seals and bottom gaskets
Rodent damage, sun-cracked rubber, drafts. A 15-minute fix most of the time.

Why Ferguson's

Why call Ferguson's for repairs.

Owner on the other end of the phone

When you call, you reach Tyler Ferguson. No dispatcher, no scripts, no being transferred.

Same-day on most repair calls

Roanoke Valley coverage with a stocked truck. Spring breaks and cable failures get handled the day they happen.

Straight quote before work starts

You see the price before we turn a wrench. No surprise upsells. If the door doesn't need replaced, we won't tell you it does.

8+ years, Class A licensed

Virginia Class A contractor, BBB A+, fully insured. The same crew you'd want working on your own house.

How it works

Four steps from call to closed garage.

Inspect & diagnose

We show up with a real ETA, look at the full mechanism, not just the obvious failure, and find the root cause.

Quote on the spot

Written estimate before work starts. Parts, labor, all in. No phone calls back to the shop.

Repair the same visit

95% of service calls are fixed in a single trip. Springs, cables, rollers, and common parts live on the truck.

Warranty it

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty; our labor is covered too. If something we touched fails, we come back.

What affects the cost

Why repair quotes vary, and how ours stay fair.

We can't publish one price for 'garage door repair' because no two failures are alike. Here's what changes the number on your estimate. Every estimate is free.

What broke

A single spring is one kind of job. A spring plus bent track plus torn cable is another. We price the real scope, not a worst-case.

Parts availability

Common parts ride on our truck. Color-matched panels or specialty opener boards may add a day or two.

Door age & type

Older hardware sometimes needs adjacent parts swapped at the same time to hold the repair. We flag this before we start, not after.

Access & timing

Tight garages, after-hours calls, and commercial access affect labor. Standard residential calls in daylight hours are always the cleanest.

Honest repair

Repair questions we actually hear.

Have a question that isn't here? Call (540) 293-0197 and you'll get a straight answer.

Is it safe to use the garage door with a broken spring?
No. The springs carry the full weight of the door. With one broken, the opener is lifting far more than it's built for, and the door can slam or come off its cables. Keep the door closed, don't run the opener, and give us a call. Most spring calls are handled same-day.
How much does a typical spring replacement run?
It depends on the spring size and type your door takes and whether one or both need replacing. We quote the real number over the phone or on arrival, before any work starts, and estimates are always free.
Do you replace springs as a pair, or one at a time?
On a two-spring door, as a matched pair. Both springs have the same cycles on them, so pairing a fresh spring with a worn one leaves the door unbalanced and usually means a second service call within months. Replacing both keeps the door balanced and costs less than two separate visits.
My door is 20+ years old. Is it worth repairing?
Often, yes. Springs, cables, rollers, and hinges are all replaceable at any age. Where it stops making sense is failing panels or discontinued sections. If that's the case, we'll tell you straight that replacement is the better spend instead of billing you for a repair that won't hold.
Do you work on doors you didn't install?
Yes. We repair all major residential door brands, whoever installed them. Most parts โ€” springs, cables, rollers, hinges โ€” are standard and ride on the truck.
